Memory

CoChat remembers things you tell it — your preferences, what you’re working on, how you like answers written — and uses them in later chats so you don’t have to repeat yourself.

Automatically. After each reply, CoChat looks at what you said in the conversation and saves anything worth keeping: “User is writing a PhD thesis on coral bleaching”, “User prefers short answers with bullet points”. It only saves what you stated yourself, not what the assistant said back. Merely asking about a topic doesn’t make it a memory.

On request. Say “remember that…” and the assistant will usually store it. It’s still the assistant’s judgement, so for something important, add it by hand.

By hand. Settings → Personalization → Manage memories → +. Write it as a statement about “User”, for example User is learning Spanish.

From an import. If you import chats from Claude, you can tick Memories to bring those across too, split into individual facts.

Scope Where it lives Who sees it
Personal Settings → Personalization → Manage memories Every chat you have
Project Project → Knowledge → Memory Every chat in that project
Assistant Assistant → Memory tab Every chat with that assistant, for anyone who uses it

Project memories are for facts about the work (“the client wants British spelling”). Assistant memories are what an assistant learns from feedback and outcomes. Adding a correction to a project’s summary saves it as a project memory too.

Settings → Personalization → Manage memories lists everything CoChat has saved about you. Each entry shows the memory, its category, tags, when it was last updated, and — if the same thing has come up more than once — how many times it’s been reinforced.

  • Edit or Delete any entry. Deleting is immediate.
  • Delete all memories clears the lot, after a confirmation.

There’s a cap of roughly 500 memories; older, less-used ones are pruned as you approach it. Overnight, CoChat also tidies up: it merges related memories into summaries and notes when a newer memory supersedes an older one.

Recall is silent. Relevant memories are given to the assistant as background before it answers; you won’t see a card or a note saying which ones were used, though the status line may briefly say Retrieving memory while a reply is being written.

  • Group chats. In a chat with other people, CoChat doesn’t save personal memories about you. Project and working-style memories are still saved. Note that memories you already have can still inform the assistant’s replies in a group chat.
  • Temporary chats aren’t saved, so nothing is extracted from them.
