Plans and limits

CoChat has three plans: Free, Starter and Pro. Every plan gets the same assistant, the same tools and the same features. What changes is how much you can do each day and which models you can use.

Current prices are on the Billing page (user menu → Billing).

Some notes on the table:

  • Daily allowance is measured in model usage, not in messages. The plan card shows a rough “messages per day” figure based on what an average message costs to run — a long deep-research turn uses more of the day’s allowance, a quick question less. See Billing and credits for how it’s spent.
  • Premium models are the most expensive frontier models. On Free you can use everything else.
  • Reasoning effort is how hard a model thinks before it answers. You set it per model in the model menu. On Free the levels above Medium (High, Extra high and Max) show a lock; Medium is the default on every plan.
  • Uploads per day only counts files added to your library or a project’s knowledge. Attaching a file to a single chat message, pasting text, or sending images is free on every plan.
  • Citation verifications (checking a reference really exists) and claim checks (checking a paper actually says what’s claimed) are separate meters.
  • Paper verifications check a whole paper or document (its claims, Self-check, Stats check and references). Viewing a paper that is already verified is free, and asking again for the same text uses none. The monthly count resets on the 1st of the month (UTC). On Free, the daily one resets at midnight UTC.
  • Humanize rewrites a markdown document to remove AI writing patterns (see Markdown). On Free, the daily run resets at midnight UTC, and a run that fails before any rewriting does not count. The Billing page shows today’s run under Humanize today.
  • There’s no cap on chats, projects, assistants, memories, artifacts, connected tools or paired machines on any plan.

You’re never cut off silently. A strip appears above the composer explaining which limit you reached, with a See plans button. For example:

  • “Your plan allows 1 active automation. Upgrade your plan to add more.” — you can still create the automation; it’s saved switched off.
  • “You’ve reached your plan’s 6 knowledge-base uploads/day.” — try again after midnight UTC or upgrade.
  • “This file is 18 MB. Your plan allows files up to 10 MB.”
  • “3 of these sources were saved without verification — your daily limit is reached.” — shown under a message’s sources; the sources are kept, just not verified.
  • “Premium models require a paid plan.” — pick another model from the model menu.
  • “You used today’s free paper verification. You get a new one tomorrow (UTC).” — on Free, after the day’s paper verification.

Daily meters reset at midnight UTC.

When your daily allowance runs out mid-chat

Section titled “When your daily allowance runs out mid-chat”

On the Free plan, a reply that could not start because the day’s allowance is spent shows a card in its place: Your free daily budget is used up, with a countdown to the reset and an Upgrade button. You have two more choices on that card:

  • Notify me when it resets — CoChat emails you when the budget is back (shortly after midnight UTC; the card shows the time in your own time zone) and the email has a Continue where you left off button that reopens the chat and re-runs the blocked request with its original attachments and the chat’s current model and tools (the same way Regenerate does). Nothing runs until you click — the email is a reminder, not an automatic retry. The reminder is per chat: if you hit the wall in three chats and ask to be notified in each, you get three emails, each continuing its own chat. Cancel on the card takes it back. If you upgrade, or continue the chat yourself before the reset, no email is sent.
  • Try again appears on the card once the reset has passed, and re-runs the request in place.
  1. Open the user menu and choose Billing.
  2. On the Billing tab, click Upgrade (from Free) or Change plan on the plan you want.
  3. Complete payment in Stripe. Your new plan is active as soon as you’re back in CoChat.

To change your card, see invoices, or cancel, click Manage billing on your current plan card. That opens Stripe’s billing portal, which is where all subscription changes happen.

If your plan was assigned by a workspace admin, the card says so, and changes go through them rather than Stripe.

There’s no trial on signup, but every new account gets a small credit balance to try premium models with — see Billing and credits. If a colleague invites you with a referral link, you get 30 days of Pro free with no card — see Referrals.
