Settings
Open the user menu (your avatar at the bottom of the sidebar) and choose Settings. The tabs are listed on the left, with a search box to find a setting by name.
Most switches save the moment you flip them. The General, Connections and Audio tabs have a Save button for their text fields.
General
Section titled “General”| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Theme | System, Dark or Light. |
| Language | The interface language. |
| System Prompt | Standing instructions sent with every chat — tone, format, things to always remember. For per-assistant instructions, use an assistant instead. |
| Advanced Parameters | Model parameters like temperature and max tokens. Leave at Default unless you know you need something specific. |
Interface
Section titled “Interface”The long list of appearance and behaviour switches. The ones most people touch:
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| UI Scale | Make everything larger, up to 1.5×. |
| High Contrast Mode | Stronger contrast throughout. |
| Notification Sound | A chime when a reply finishes. |
| Chat Bubble UI | Show messages as bubbles, or as a plain transcript. |
| Widescreen Mode | Use the full window width for chat. |
| Temporary Chat by Default | Start new chats as temporary (not saved) — see Managing chats. |
| Title / Follow-Up / Chat Tags Auto-Generation | Turn off the automatic chat titles, suggested follow-ups, or tags. |
| Always Collapse Code Blocks / Always Expand Details | How code and collapsible sections open by default. |
| Web Search in Chat | Default lets the assistant decide when to search; Always searches on every message. |
| Rich Text Input for Chat | Formatting in the composer as you type; turn off for a plain text box. |
| Paste Large Text as File | Long pastes become an attachment instead of filling the message. |
| Image Compression | Shrink images before upload, with a maximum width and height. |
Personalization
Section titled “Personalization”Manage memories opens the list of things CoChat remembers about you, where you can add or delete entries by hand. See Memory.
Speech-to-text and text-to-speech engines, voice and playback rate. See Voice mode.
Data Controls
Section titled “Data Controls”- Import from External Chat Service (beta) — bring your history over from Claude or ChatGPT.
- Import Chats / Export Chats — CoChat’s own JSON format, so an export can be imported back later.
- Archived Chats — open the archive.
- Archive All Chats — reversible.
- Delete All Chats — permanent; you’ll be asked to confirm.
See Your data and privacy for what else you can export.
Notifications
Section titled “Notifications”One row per kind of notification, with a switch for Email and a switch for Push where that kind has one. Both are on until you turn one off. Turn off all optional emails turns off every email switch at once.
- Push notifications on this device turns push on or off for the browser or app you’re using, sends a test notification, and lists your devices so you can remove one. On an iPhone or iPad, push works only in the Home Screen app: add CoChat to your Home Screen, open it from there, and turn push on.
- Notify me on a long answer turns push on for this device too, unless you turned push off for it before; then only Turn on here brings it back.
- Response notifications (under In this browser tab): after you tap Notify me, the tab shows a notification when the answer is ready, where no push does. Turning it on asks your browser for permission; turning it off never does.
Account, security and billing emails are always sent.
Account
Section titled “Account”| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Profile | Your name and avatar. Click the avatar to upload one, or hover for Initials / Gravatar. Your email is shown but can’t be changed here. |
| Change Password | Enter your current password and a new one. |
| API keys | A personal key for calling CoChat from scripts, if enabled for your account. |
Connections and External Tools
Section titled “Connections and External Tools”Connections lets you point CoChat at your own OpenAI-compatible endpoint. External Tools is the same integrations manager described in Connecting tools. Both tabs only appear when they’re enabled for your account.
Referrals
Section titled “Referrals”Your referral link and the status of everyone you’ve invited. See Referrals.
The version you’re running, the open-source components CoChat is built on, and the support address: hello@cochat.ai.
Good to know
Section titled “Good to know”- Some settings can be locked by a workspace admin, in which case the row simply doesn’t appear.
- Settings are per account, not per device — they follow you between browsers.
